GDS Special Session.

A special session will be held on GLOW DISCHARGE SPECTROMETRY on Thursday 13th Sept.
This will be organised in conjunction with the European Working Group on Glow Discharge Spectrometry (EW-GDS), the German GD Users group and the new Marie Curie Analytical Glow Discharge Research Training Network, "GLADNET".

This session will form part of a major meeting on Glow Discharge Spectrometry to mark the start of GLADNET; this RTN involves 16 partners, mainly within the EU, andincludes Universities, Research Institutes and Industrial firms. It will fund 10 Early Stage Researcher posts (PhD students) and 5 Experienced Researcher posts (post-doc fellows). Full details may be found at www.gladnet.eu

The ECASIA GDS session will highlight the potential of Glow Discharge techniques (Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) and Mass Spectrometry  (MS) for surface and interface analysis. Keynote speakers will be Prof. Ken Shimizu (ECASIA Invited Lecture) and  Dr Thomas Nelis (GLADNET Invited Lecture – "Current state of pulsed analytical discharges and their future use for GD-OES and GD-MS".) .
It will include presentations on the EU GLADNET RTN and the EMDPA STREP projects (New Elemental and Molecular Depth Profiling Analysis of Advanced Materials by Modulated Radio Frequency Glow Discharge Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry)

The Glow Discharge Spectrometry Meeting will continue on Friday 14th September at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, for participants in GLADNET, EW-GDS and the German GDS Users' Group. Presentations will be on GDS topics not directly relevant to GDS Surface and Interface Analysis, and detailed presentations on the individual GLADNET projects.

The Payling Prize (value 1000 €) will be awarded by the EW-GDS for the best presentation (oral or poster) given at the GDS meeting (Thursday ECASIA session andFriday GDS meeting). Preference will be given to young scientists.
